Electronica 2. The Heart of Noise. Jean Michel Jarre

Jean Michel Jarre’s father was a composer of movies music. Often, he travelled to USA to work, and then the little Jean Michel was raised only by his mother, in France. He doesn’t have relationship with his father until 18 years old.

Also, he studied with Karlheinz Stockhausen (the German musician, one of the innovators in the electronic music), but Jarre acknowledges to Pierre Schaeffer (a pioneer of musique concrete) as his mentor. What he learn from Schaeffer is that the music is not created by musical notes, but sounds. According to him, nowadays all the DJs are sound designers.

He became one of the precursors of the electronic music, selling more than a 12 million copies of his first album, Oxygène, playing live for an audience of more than a million people at Place de la Concorde. But the new generations haven’t heard about him. That’s why he decided to return with Electronica parts 1 and 2.

In Electronica 2: The Heart of Noise, he stated that he wanted to show that the electronic music have an intemporal character, and when he started it was seen as an extraterrestrial playing some strange machines that the people do not consider musical instruments. The pop and rock conquest the world, but the electronic music is universal: is a way to create. In this second album in a couple years, is notorious how he goes straight in the same direction. There are interesting collaborators as Pet Shop Boys, Cyndy Lauper, David Lynch, Primal Scream, among others, even Edward Snowden, the ex-analyst of NSA. The selection of the artists, according to Jarre was subjective, he was I nterested in them for their work so he wanted to exchange ideas with them.

In “This Creatures” there are some echoes of the album Revolutions. “The Heart of Noise” is similar to their first albums, is like an Equinoxxe modern.

In the last two albums, the last song is called “Continuous mix” which mixes all the songs of the album in one.

Jarre have return to work really hard: he recently announced that in the 40th anniversary of the release of Oxigène, he will release a Oxigène 3, in December 2, 2016.
