The Spoils. Massive Attack

Few months ago, Massive Attack (English trip hop group consisting in Robert “3D” del Naja and Grant “Dady G” Marshall) launched an app called Fantom, through they will be sending updates and new songs. This app is interactive and has pre-charged samples of the new songs of Massive Attack. (You can download the app here: ).

According to the press release is “a sensory music player that remixes and reforms songs uniquely using a variety of environmental variables including location, movement, time of day, heartbeat and the integral moving image camera.”

In the past days, through this app, Massive Attack released three new songs, two of them released in the form of EP “The Spoils”. When the app was launched, Massive Attack promised two EPs to come this year.

The song that gave the name to the EP, is a collaboration with Hope Sandoval (frontwoman of Mazzy Star). This is the third collaboration between Massive Attack and Hope Sandoval, after “Paradise Circus” from the album Heligoland and the single “Four Walls”. The most remarkable of the song is the perfect synchrony of the synths and beats with orchestral music, and the mesmerizing Sandoval’s voice. In the other hand, “Come Near Me” features British vocalist Ghostpoet, which is a little bit more somber than “The Spoils”.

Also, in notable the actors which team up with Massive Attack for the videos of the songs: the video for “The Spoils” is starring Cate Blanchett, while the video for “Come Near Me” is starring Kosovan actor Arta Dobroshi.

Massive Attack keep showing how innovators they are in this three different ways: through the Fantom app, through the EP with new music and through the the videos.
